Buried Katie Maguire Graham Masterton Books

I can't say I am not biased. Even at his so-called "worse" in writing, I still love what Graham masterton does with the Characters and the genres. This book in particular is a work that repays second readings. I have a kindle version and a hardback edition, with a preference for Hardback. The violence and sexual overtones is/are something that is always contextually relevant. I can't understand why some people pick at the violence or the details of Katie's life. if you have read other books by Graham such as LORDS OF THE AIR, you can see that he puts a lot of appropriate detail into the novels. The intricate weaving of characters, crime and real life is reminiscent of case work in crime that I saw with my father as a defense lawyer, and what I read at law School, and experienced in police and court procedurals. For all the complaints about the violence, it is still deftly toned-down for story. If you want real life, then read a case and look for the coroner reports, you will see that what Graham does is not inappropriate and works perfectly for his superbly crafted stories. Some critiques leave me wondering what books the person has read, but the work Graham puts into his novels is brilliant and careful. Always raising the bar for his series like this one. I must admit that for a long while I had been purely a fan of Grahams horror work, but his historical novels always impress. One reason, I guess that I am waiting carefully( and with baited breath) to get SCARLET WIDOW if this is to be a series. Long may you reign, Graham Masterton !!
I bought this book in KINDLE and Hardback editions. The Kindle version is sometimes easier for me to read, but I love Hardback editions as well. Also, the voice in the first audio book is marvelous. If I could get CD editions of all 7 books plus the short stories so far, I would get those as well. In a very real way, Masterton's work is literature of a high caliber. I find it odd that someone should crtiticise the violence in this book, since firstly it is a book about crime, secondly, if you have read the series from book 1( WHITE BONES) you know the style. As for the "gay" critique, so what ? Masterton works with characters and it is not like he uses the sexual side of his characters in a gratuitious way, and in my view it is appropriate, and within the context of the story. All of the story and the character relationships is done with a style and care that I think is admirable. If anything, the violence is understated. Graham could go a lot more extreme in the crime side, after what I saw as a Law student and watching my father's cases in Law courts. If you can't stand the violence and the character nuances, well good-bye and good luck, but this is a series that is written by a master story writer, and if you stick with it, compare the books with LORDS OF THE AIR, as well as SCARLET WIDOW, which is all done with contextually appropriate and sympathetic exposition of characters. I just started Scarlet WIDOW and it is a masterful work which had me emotionally involved, read crying, in the first few chapters. However you view it, this is a series that is a wonderful work, as well as being immensely enjoyable and superbly readable. I highly recommend all 7 books ( so far) and wish Graham the best of success for giving us a work that is so readable, and with characters we can relate to, and get involved with in the best way ( or the worst if you have some criminals you love to hate).

Buried Katie Maguire Graham Masterton Books Reviews

He tends to make her seem incompetent and it's annoying.
Good book. Well written.I liked the slang used but I'm sure this may put some people off. Kind of easy to understand in context. I will read more by this author.
All the Katie Maguire mysteries I've read have been really well written. I've enjoyed the bits of Irish dialect and phrasings as well as the well rounded characters. Masterton has a gruesome turn of mind, but so does Stephen King.
Horror author, Graham Masterton's new novel in the (detective) Katie Maguire series both stands alone and maintains the brilliant creativity of the previous ones and, indeed, of nearly all Mr Masterton's vast work. His sexual, emotional, witty and vivid, alarming and pungent characters give an uncommon view of a reality just next door to ours, stripped of its civilised layer. The good and beautiful, the bad and ugly, leap out in neon from the rancorous slums of Corke in an Ireland dragged down by political murders and a black economy, where sex, incidentally, can be beautiful or terrifying.

This volume in the Katie Maguire series does not directly call on anything supernatural (apart from passing references to various Irish catholic saints, understandable amid such corruption) but the villains in Masterton's overpopulated and under-resourced Ireland have mythical proportions and the tone is heroic, allowing the reader to transcend the gore. Filled with acute, funny and bizarre metaphors, studded with fluent Irishisms, it deftly draws us into yet another dangerous adventure with Katie as an understaffed Cork Guarda battle against the macabre.
Fast paced. First book of this type I.'ve read.
Did not like the constant use of Gaelic words and phrases.
Stopping to try and figure out the meanings disturbed the flow of the story. Don.t know if I.'ll read another in this series.
Where to start? Katie's up and down personal life? The high-up officers who are trying to set her up? The friends and colleagues who always seem to get shot? No one is safe, the storyline is intriguing, it is a page-turner!
I have read all the books in this series in order, and even gave the next book in the series in my iPad. I am about 25% done with this book and feel no desire to finish it. First, I have no problem with gay people, two of my dearest friends are gay, but is Katie gay, or just afraid to say something to the women making sexual overtones? This has happened several times now and I find it off putting. Also the violence just seems over the top. I don't mind some to move the story along, but some of this is just too much. And hasnt the hero/heroine/family member/loved one in danger just been done to death? I may try skimming through at a later date, but I'm not sure.
