Fairy Tale is super cute! It’s a super, duper quick read. Like, one minute I’m starting it and then suddenly I was finished! It as a fun way to spend a hot morning though. The story is all about Morgan, who just wants to be with her boyfriend Cam. They’ve been together since they emerged from their mothers’ wombs on the same day sixteen years ago. But now, Cam is acting weird, and a strange “cousin” named Pip also appears. Turns out that Cam was a changeling and now his fairy family wants him back as he’s heir to the throne. Neither Cam nor Morgan want that to happen, so how can they stop destiny?

Fairy Tale is super predictable! But I don’t necessarily think that was bad thing in this case. It’s not a very serious story, and there’s not too many ways it could have ended. Morgan is also psychic so she knows what’s coming even though she’s hoping to change it. That does take away a bit of the suspense, but oh well. I still really enjoyed reading it, because it was just cute and funny. Morgan has a definite voice and Pip was adorable. Then there’s Dawn, who is Cam’s fairy guide to prepare him for returning to the Otherworld. She’s like if Regina George was a fairy (i.e. scary, blonde, and on Wednesdays she wears pink).

That’s all I’m going to say about Fairy Tale. It was just too quick and short for me to really develop much more of an opinion. I liked it a lot. Yes, I knew exactly what was going to happen before I even started, but that’s fine with me since I just wanted a light read for the day. That said, I’d still recommend it because it is one of those feel good reads that just give you warm, tingly feelings.

This book is a story about two teenagers in love. Little do they know, but it's a doomed relationship. This is a very interesting take on faerie life. The main male character, Cam, learns that he is actually a part of a hidden world, that of the faerie. Not only does he belong in another world, but he's the heir to the king's throne.

This story is told from the point of view of his future-foreseeing girlfriend, Morgan. She seems to be a selfish girl and the novel is full of teenage angst, sarcasm, entitlement and more sarcasm. So much so that I did not enjoy her. For example, on the day of her much anticipated sweet sixteen party, she cries in the bathroom and thinks that if her mother knew what she was doing, she'd kick her sorry... (well, you get the picture.) Earlier, she decides that she's going to b...ch slap a faerie who is helping her boyfriend learn about the parallel world he was supposed to inhabit.

Then, throw into the mix another boy, Pip, who was taken in during the changeling switch and has been returned to the human world ready to step into her boyfriend's shoes as Cam prepares to leave for Otherworld and you'd think there would be some romantic tension. If you did, though, you'd be thinking wrong. In fact, what could have been a fascinating element is a bit of a letdown. (Unless you consider superficial guilt as tension.)

I did like that the author covered her bases and gave explanations as to why no one seemed to notice that all of these changes were going on. Ends weren't just left hanging and the ending was really a surprise to me, with a bit of an ironic twist.

I will admit that I cried at one point, so I was hooked in and a book that can make me feel so sentimental can't be all that bad, right? Overall, it's a great concept for a book, but it's definitely a young adult book. Perhaps a teen would rate it higher, but I just can't justify it.
I have read dark and tortured fairy stories, evil pixie stories, misunderstood fairy stories, and fairies as plants stories. I've loved them all. But Cyn Balog's version, FAIRY TALE, was so beautifully different that I now have a new favorite.

FAIRY TALE was Ms. Balog's debut, and finaled for the Romance Writer's Association of America's RITA Award in 2010. Heck of a way to begin her writing career! The story takes place in an average American neighborhood, with your average, run of the mill teenagers. Oh, except that one of them is a psychic and the other is slowly turning into a fairy.

Morgan Sparks has loved Cam Browne her entire life. They were born on the same day, been best friends since birth, and know everything about each other. That's why Cam's sudden change in behavior, live-in cousin, and the fact that he can now fly comes as a bit of a shock. Even her psychic powers didn't see that one coming.

A week before their mutual birthday blowout, her glued at the hip boyfriend Cam starts pulling away and Morgan demands answers. She breaks Cam's rule of peeking into his future and becomes convinced he has a tumor and is dying. When she confronts him, she fortunately discovers Cam isn't sick . . . he's simply a changeling switched at birth, and the rightful heir to the fairy throne.

Throw in a mean-spirited glowing pink blob hovering around trying to steal her boyfriend, a variety of unfortunate cuts and bruises, and the nerdy-turned-hottie Pip who turns out to be the human the fairies switched with Cam at birth, and Morgan's head is reeling.

But with the countdown to their sixteenth birthday on--the age when fairies fully inherit their powers and the only day fairies can cross over into the Otherworld--Morgan becomes determined. She formulates a plan with Pip, while fighting confusing feelings of attraction, to keep Cam with her. But as she watches him daily change more and more into the fairy king he truly is, she has to decide if they truly are meant to be together, or if destiny has another plan.

This story has everything I could want. A love triangle, sweet and chivalrous boys, strong heroine, involved and caring parents, angsty high school drama, and lots of giggles. Despite my mound of research I need to be doing for my own writing project, I gobbled this story up and immediately got SLEEPLESS, Ms. Balog's sophomore supernatural romance.

On her blog this week, Ms. Balog talked about sequels and how everyone wants them for their stories. While she has no plans for a sequel to FAIRY TALE, she listed several humorous ideas. I was just one of many commenters BEGGING her for a sequel for this tale.

I want to know all about Cam in the fairy world. Does he continue to save lives? What types of drama is involved with fairy politics? Since we know he defies fairy logic and can love deeply, does he fall in love with Dawn, his betrothed?

I want to know more about Pip and watch him get the happy ending he truly deserves. I want to see the love story between Pip and Morgan develop and see if there are any more awkward transitions into the human world.

I want to find out more about Morgan's psychic powers--why does she have them? Is there more to her powers then visions? Will she ever see Cam again?

Until then, I will continue to gobble up SLEEPLESS and wait anxiously for STARSTRUCK to hit the shelves in July.
