Gatekeepers Dreamhouse Kings Series Book 3 Robert Liparulo 9781595544988 Books
This is the first book I have read in the Gatekeepers series. I think it would be best to read the other books, but you can read this as a stand alone nove, still enjoy it and go back and read the others if you enjoy it.The house the King family lives in is very unique. It's different rooms and doors are actually portals to other worlds. I liked the historical value of the book when the children went to the Civil War world, or back to a French village and rescued a very important person in history - these were my favorite parts of the book.
The premise throughout the story is that the King family is missing their mother, and she is in another world after being kidnapped by the villian. They need to rescue her but do not know exactly where she is and going through the portals to go looking can be very dangerous.
The book has colorful characters and the house is actually amazing - it's alive and does it's best to keep the King family on their toes. People can actually get pulled through the portals if they are not careful.
I think kids who have an interest in history or time travel will really enjoy this book and will love the entire series. This book is well written and the action moves forward in a way that should keep children reading it and involved in the story.

Gatekeepers Dreamhouse Kings Series Book 3 Robert Liparulo 9781595544988 Books Reviews
The adventure continues for the King family. When Watcher in the Woods ended, it seemed as though the search for Mrs. King was successful. As expected, though, things weren't quite so easy. With their dad in jail, the King children left to survive in the house, and the past trying to catch them, Jesse could not have arrived at a better time. What does he know and will his knowledge help them with their quest to find their mom?
What an adventure! Liparulo has a great series going. Gatekeepers is a high energy, fast paced book from start to finish. What down time there is only serves to allow the reader a moment to catch their breath. The action never stops. In the midst of all the action, the over all story develops quite nicely and continues to move forward answering questions, but leaving many more behind.
Jesse and Keal are developed and used very effectively in Gatekeepers. Jesse's knowledge combined with Keal's loyalty brings a nice calming balance into an otherwise hectic story. David continues to be an awesome character. The insight into his personality is well worth waiting for. He has a heart of courage tendered with love. I'm glad to see he has a prominent role in this series.
More than the other two books, Liparulo gives the reader some great ideas to think about. One of my favorite themes is always our uniqueness in this world--our talents that were given to us for a specific purpose. Liparulo makes good use of this theme as well as accepting our place in history. It's also interesting to think about events of the past and how they effect the present and the future. The Dreamhouse Kings series is great entertainment for all ages and one I highly recommend. The only drawback--Gatekeepers has a most unsatisfying ending. Another cliffhanger....
The Dreamhouse Kings series is a wonderful read for any age. I am a father of eleven kids ranging from 8 to 18 and I have enjoyed the books as much as all my kids!
Characters are believable and their personalities are well structured so that by the second chapter of the first book they seem like old friends.
Be warned!! These are books that are hard to put down once you start reading! Robert Liparulo is a talented writer who knows how to immerse his readers into the story and hold them fast from beginning to end!!!
A highly recommended series for young or old and awesome for family or class reading!!
This book was the most exciting that I have read to date. The suspense builds to the point where I can harldy stand it as I am waiting for the other shoe to fall.
The boys think that they have located their mother in the Civil War Era. Meanwhile, this evil man named Taksidian seeks to remove the family from the house by getting an eviction notice served because he says that the house is unlivable & that the children are are in danger. Mr. King accuses the policemen of taking a bribe to get them out of the house & he is ultimately hauled to jail leaving the children alone in the house to fend for themselves with a police cruiser outside to watch them that night. The kids are frightened to death, but stick together & refuse to give up their claim to the house. The 2 policemen are so frightened outside the house that night that they decide to flee for safety. They then meet their Uncle Jesse & his care giver. Jesse is there to tell the family that they have a purpose for being at the house as Gatekeepers. Later three humongous men from the other worlds come to attack the kids & to do knows what to them. They fend the men off with the help of the caregiver. The kids refuse to give up on their quest to find their mother despite clear & present danger. The little sister, Toria, is given more of a role in this book. She is no longer an annoying little sister. She is loved & valued. Although she is young, she exhibits bravery when she is asked to go alone into the Civil War Era to locate & bring back her mother because both boys are now known in that era & have had run ins with the soldiers. Toria finds herself in danger, but is rescued by her brother, David, who exhibits bravery also. They find & bring home someone only to have the hungry house want to reclame that person. Mr. King returns home from jail & new adventures begin in the otherworlds. This is a must read
